What to expect: Many international guests are attracted to the eight-story Mosser, which opened in 1913 and was overhauled in 2002. It presents a unique blend of Victorian-era architecture (stamped-tin elevator doors, iron-and-marble stairs and railings) and minimalist-modern design (chairs with swivel-arm desks, and room treatments in wood and stainless steel). The adjacent recording studio attracts musicians, as well. Amenity highlights: Smallish rooms, 55 of which share bathrooms down a hall, offer touches such as wireless keyboards and television Internet access, custom platform beds with drawers underneath, wall-unit CD players, bathrobes, and an on-site laundry facility. The Mosser?s owner, an avowed environmentalist, puts organic apples in all guestrooms and donates a percentage of the hotel?s profits to reforestation projects. Insider tip: The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Metreon Center, which offer a wide array of entertainment options for all ages, are just around the corner. In addition to art exhibits and theater and dance performances, YBC?s gardens host numerous free concerts and events. Metreon is a multimedia entertainment complex with a high-tech game arcade and 15 movie theaters, including a mega-screen IMAX theater.
